Election results 2012

Following the local council election count at the Metrodome, the Labour group has increased its majority on Barnsley Council. Labour gained nine seats - seven from the Barnsley Independent Group, one from Conservatives and one Independent - in the 21 wards contested.
This means the full make up of the council is as follows:
- Labour - 52
- Conservative - 5
- Barnsley Independent Group - 5
- Independent - 1
Overall turnout is 29.12 per cent.

Bringing history to life
Barnsley Archives and Local Studies are calling for volunteers to help them undertake an exciting project to catalogue documents and photographs belonging to the Spencer-Stanhope family who owned Cannon Hall.
Bringing to life the history of this Barnsley based family, volunteers will have the opportunity to read the personal diaries of Margaret Elizabeth Fraser Spencer-Stanhope. As well as research the travels of John Spencer-Stanhope and compile history of the family and their properties.

Free event for landlords and managing agents
A free event for landlords and managing agents takes place at Barnsley College’s Honeywell site, Honeywell Lane, on Monday, 14 May, from 5.30pm to 8pm.
Hosted by Barnsley Accreditation Scheme in association with Barnsley College and the National Landlords Association, there will be an opportunity to hear speakers on:
- Barnsley Accreditation Scheme
- New student rental market opportunities
- Housing options advice and homelessness prevention service
- Landlord survival strategies
The event takes place in the Think Low Carbon Centre, Workshop 2. There is free parking and refreshments and a buffet will be provided.

Barnsley Crematorium Open Day

Barnsley Crematorium is holding an open day on Saturday, 12 May, from 10am to 3pm.
It’s a great opportunity for people to have a look around and meet the friendly, knowledgeable staff who will discuss and answer questions about the crematorium and the cremation process. It may also help to resolve any anxieties, curiosities people have and to offer reassurances
Visitors will be able to see behind the scenes and obtain information relating to burial and cremation.
Funeral directors will also be in attendance to advise on funeral matters.
