FAMILIES in Barnsley with a child or young person who has a disability or additional needs are invited to a free information event next Wednesday (9 June) at Barnsley Football Club, Oakwell.
The free drop-in event (Legends Suite), between 9.30am and 3pm, organised by Barnsley Parent Carer Forum and the council will feature presentations, information stalls, workshops and, for younger children, fun activities.
Families will be able to learn more about the services provided by a wide range of organisations, including the recently established Barnsley Parents and Carers Forum, the council’s Children, Young People and Families service, and third sector services. Representatives of these organisations will talk about their commitment to improving outcomes for children, young people and families.
Cllr Linda Burgess, Cabinet spokesperson for Children, Young People and Families, said: “A key message from the parents and carers of disabled children and young people in Barnsley is they need more information about the services that are available to them and their families.
“I’d like to encourage families children with a disability to call in to Oakwell next Wednesday to learn more about the services and organisations that can help them. The information will be provided in a clear and user-friendly style, and a wide range of supporting activities will take place.”
Among those giving presentations will be parents and carers, a young person with additional needs and children who have a brother or sister with a disability.
Refreshments and a free buffet lunch will be provided, along with quiet areas and a crèche. For further information contact (01226) 345477 or email sarahwike@barnsley.gov.uk
