THE Barnsley Flood Fair takes place on Tuesday 15 June, between 1.30pm and 6.30pm, at the Metrodome.

The event, which is free and open to the community of Barnsley, is timed to coincide with the third anniversary of the June 2007 floods, when many borough residents and businesses suffered severe hardship following unprecedented amounts of rainfall.

The event will showcase the flood alleviation works carried out since 2007 by Barnsley Council and its partners including the Environment Agency and the Dove and Dearne Internal Drainage Board.

Cllr Bill Newman, Cabinet spokesperson for Development, said: “Following the floods we spent a great deal of time, effort and resources in fixing the damage caused by the flooding, and along with our partners we are committed to minimising the effects that any future flooding may have on the borough.”

The flood defence exhibition brings together the largest gathering of flood defence equipment suppliers, manufacturers and specialists ever seen in the north of England.

Representatives from private sector organisations will be available to give flood protection advice to businesses and home owners alike. This will provide opportunities for residents and businesses at risk of flooding to see at first hand the products which can limit the effects of floods affecting their homes and businesses.

Cllr Newman added: “We encourage people to come along to this event to find out what the council has done since the floods and also to find out what they can do for themselves to limit the effects of future flood risks.”

The council will continue to promote flood resilience to individual homeowners and encourage business continuity measures to commercial organisations. To find out more about flood resilience come along to this event.
